ACRA Championships

May 25-26 2013- Lake Sidney Lanier- Gainsville, Georgia

In the Eagles' second trip to ACRAs, the Varsity Double (2X) launched first. Placing sixth in heats, the crew of Junior Thomas McShane and Senior Ryan Montgomery improved to third in reps and won their Petite Final on Sunday Morning with a personal best of twenty seconds.

In the Novice Eight, the Eagles continued their impressive season, cruising to third and a Grand Final Bid. On Sunday, the crew took sixth, defeating crews ranked above them and closing the gap on other crews. In the Second Varsity Eight, the crew took fifth in heats and third in repechage. On Sunday, they won their Petite Final, the first Boston College 2V entry at ACRAs. The First Varsity Eight took third in their heat on Saturday to advance to a Sunday semi-final. On Sunday, the crew took seventh in semi's but fought back to fifth in the Petite Finals.

ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships

May 12, 2013- Lake Quinsigamond- Worcester, Massachusetts

In the last race on Lake Quinsigamond, the Eagles took third place in the men's points competition. Opening the day in the rain, the Third Varsity Eight managed a re-start to take fifth in heats. The Novice Eight and Second Varsity Eight each took second to advance to the Grand Finals. Finishing the heats, the Varsity Eight took fourth. In the Petite finals, the Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight took third and fourth. In the Grands, the Novice Eight took second and the Second Varsity Eight took sixth.

New England Rowing Championships

May 4, 2013- Lake Quinsigamond- Worcester, Massachusetts

In their first championship race of the season, the Novice Four started off strong, advancing to the final over Wenworth and Mass Maritime. Following the Novice Four, the Varsity Four took fifth in their heat to qualify for the Petites. In the eights, the Second Varsity Eight took third in their heat over Middlebury and UVM to advance to the Grand Final. The Varsity Eight took fourth in the faster of two heats in 6:05, defeating Colby, USGCA, and UCONN to reach a petite final. In the Novice Eight, the eagles fought Trinity to the wire in a straight final, earning silver medals. This second place effort was replicated in the Novice Four Grand Final, defeating Bowdoin, Wentworth, UMass Lowell, and Amherst. Following the Novice Four, the Varsity took fourth in the Petites. In the Second Varsity Eight Grand Final, the eagles took fifth. To wrap up the day, the Varsity Eight won their Petite final. These races culminated in a second place point total for the Men's point trophy.

WPI/UMASS

April 27, 2013- Lake Quinsigamond- Worcester, Massachusetts

The Eagles squared off against WPI in the second annual McGee/McCarthy challenge cup. The morning began with the Second Varsity Eight defeating WPI by nine seconds, with the Third Varsity Eight coming in fourth. In the novice eight, the eagles faced off against UMass, winning by twelve seconds in a head to head matchup. Contesting the second annual McGee/McCarthy race the First Varsity Eight of WPI edged out BC to tie the series at one apiece. In the fours races, the novice took third by one second and the varsity took second to UMass. The event was livestreamed at (http://new.livestream.com/accounts/3767403)

Knecht Cup

April 17, 2013- Cooper River- Cherry Hill, New Jersey

The team made its second and final trip to the Cooper to race national competition for the first time this season. Eagle entries included the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Freshman Eight, Club Eight, Club Four, and Freshman Four. In the Varsity Eight, the crew took fifth above Villanova in the fastest heat of the event, with no crews above 6:01 advancing to the semis. In the Second Varsity Eight, the Eagles defeated Lasalle, Villanova, and Marist to finals on Sunday. On Sunday, they took sixth in a talented field of crews. The Freshman Eight placed the highest this weekend, taking first in heats and second in semis en route to a silver medal finish in 6:08. Following the Freshman Eight, the Club Eight took fourth in their heats. In the fours, the Varsity Four placed fourth in their heat to earn a place in the final on time. On Sunday, they took bronze, improving their time over ten seconds on the field. The Freshman Four advanced to the semi final by taking second in their heat over NY Martime, Dowling, Carnegie Mellon B, and Haverford where they placed fifth.

URI

April 6, 2013- Charles River- Boston, Massachusetts

The Boston College Eagles dueled the University of Rhode Island in a strong cross-headwind on the Chalres. The First and Second Varsity Eights of Boston College defeated URI, returning the Hammer Trophy to Chestnut Hill. This evens the history of the trophy at two wins apiece. In the Novice Event, the BC Novice Eight could not catch URI by the finish line, 1.4 seconds short.


MIT/Bates

March 30, 2013- Charles River- Boston, Massachusetts

The Eagles made their first appearance of the spring on the Charles against hometown MIT and Bates College. In the Varsity Event, the Varsity Eight took third place. In the Second Varsity Race, the 2V8+ had a strong 2nd 1000, coming from 6 seats down to finish 2nd, 1.5 seats off MIT, and the 3V8+ finished next in 3rd, beating both Bates A and B.


Jesuit Inviatational

March 17, 2013- Cooper River- Cherry Hill, New Jersey

The team made its first trip to Camden of the season for the Jesuit Invitational. Conditions included some early snow and sleet. The Novice Eight set the tone for the day, fighting Georgetown to the line to finish second in 6:42.3. Following the Freshman Eight, the Novice Four rowed an 8:40.1, finishing shortly behind a field of varsity crews. The Varsity Four was among these crews, earning a bronze finish (8:16.9).  Battling St. Joe's through the last 50 meters, the Varsity Eight took third by a half second in 6:46.3 in front of Fairfield and Loyola. Matching the Novice Eight for the best placed finish of the day, the Second Varsity Eight finished second, ahead of Fairfield in 6:59.3. These finishes, combined with an impressive sweep by the Varsity Women, brought home the first place cannonball trophy to Chestnut Hill for BC Rowing.

Winter 2013

Full Triathlon

February 23, 2013- Conte Forum, Boston College

The Eagles returned to Conte forum for a more daunting Triathalon, 6k erg, 30 lap run, and 3 tours of stairs with the Varsity Women. Thank you to alumni Evan Bailey '01, James Primes '09, and Stuart Wall '09 for competing. Kevin Bielawski was the fastest Varsity rower in 1:22:57 and Shane Gregoire was the fastest novice in 1:26:17.

The Varsity Eagles tested themselves over 2k at Agganis arena against some of the fastest rowers in the country. Over 260 athletes competed in the open division. Congratulations to Keane Johnson for placing 52nd.

Half-Triathlon

February 2, 2013- Conte Forum, Boston College

With temperatures in the mid thirties, the Eagles kicked off their first event of the season in Conte Forum. The first heat took off at 7:15 am, completing a 5k on the erg, 20 laps of the concourse, and 2 tours of stairs. Congratulations to Chris Samul for leading the team with a total time of 53:32 and William Schloth was the fastest novice at 54:57.

Fall 2012

Tail of the Charles

November 17th, 2012 - Boston, Massachusetts

In their final head race as members of BCVM, the senior class represented the program well against top tier programs including Harvard, Northeastern, Brown, Boston University, and MIT. The Senior Four/ BC 'A' finished the MIT to Harvard course in 14:57.1, ahead of Brown E and MIT C, and the Bowfour Four/ BC 'B' finished in 14:29.2, less than 1:15 off of some of toughest national collegiate talent. On the Novice level, the heavyweight and lightweight entries were equally competitive finishing in 14:04.6 and 14:12.6 respectively. A strong finish to the fall season for all BC crews.


Green Monster Regatta

November 3rd, 2012 - Hanover, New Hampshire

 Vying for the opportunity to win a Vermonster from Ben and Jerry's at scenic Hanover, NH, the Novice team finished 5th and 12th for a combined third place finish. The team faced stiff competition in a predominantly Eastern Sprints field, finishing ahead of Holy Cross, Darmouth LWT, Harvard HWT, and MIT LWT. The Eagles return in two weeks for their final race of the season at the Tail of the Charles.

Head of the Fish

October 27th , 2012 - Saratoga, New York

Opening the day for the Eagles, the Novice Men of Boston College took to the water for the first time as members of the team. Racing at 9:52, the "A" boat took 8th in 12:13 Showing depth, the "B" entry finished in 12:58, defeating every other "B" crew. In the final race of the Fall season for the Varsity, the Eagles raced against some of the top crews from the Northeast. At 10:27, the Varsity Four of John Corbett, Tom Fee, Keane Johnson, and Sean Fanning tested a new shell, earning the first medals of the day in 12:01. Closing in their wake, the "B" entry of Fred Gonfiantini, Brian Larsen, Jimmy Harvey, and Chris Samul finished in 5th in 12:08. After some recovery, the fours took to the water again as members of their eights. In the Collegiate Varsity Eight, the crew finished in second place, covering the 4.5k in 10:58. The 2V took third in the Collegiate JV Eight in 11:25.

Head Of The Charles

October 20th and 21st, 2012 - Boston, Massachusetts 

1V 2012 HOCR

Seeking to protect the home river on Saturday, the Second Varsity Eight raced in the Club Eight on Saturday afternoon. Despite the field ensagging the 2V in heavy traffic, the 2V fought to a 16th place finish (16:16.35) in the 38 field crew, defeating MIT, Georgia Tech, Marietta, Army, and UVM. Also in the Club 8 Ryan Montgomery and Tom McShane earned 32nd for the New Rochelle Rowing association sitting five seat and stroke seat respectively.

On Sunday, the Varsity Eight had their best finish in program history by finishing top 10 in both a strong headwind and field (16:15.98).

Alumni and Coaches also represented the team this weekend with Associate Head Coach Brendan Mulvey racing in the Lightweight single, EJ McCarthy '11 racing in the Club Single, and Rachel Craft '12 coxed Fairmount in the Club Four.

2V 2012 HOCR

Quinsigamond Snake Regatta 

October 13th, 2012 - Worcester, Massachusetts

The Eagles looked strong in their first of many trips to the Lake Quinsigamond course. In their first race in set lineups of the year, the Varsity 8 took fifth in a fast 14:10, defeating WPI, Middlebury, Vermond, Tufts, Colby, and UMass. The Second Varsity Eight placed second among all 'B' entries in 14:29. The crew defeated three first eights and suffered its only defeat amongst equally seeded crews to EARC member Holy Cross. Both boats look forward to the Head of the Charles next weekend.

Textile Regatta

September 30th, 2012- Lowell, Massachusetts

The Varsity made its first trip to the Textile Regatta in the past two seasons. Racing in even eights, the team laid out nearly identitcal pieces, finishing third and fourth in times of 19:20 and 19:27 for the winding Merrimack course. The race was a reunion of sorts, as members of the teams of Fordham Prep, Chaminade, and Essex met up with former teammates and coaches before the race. The eights competed in the Men's open race, with Gentle Giant rowing club winning in 19:01. Thank you to the Coogan family for providing food on a busy parents weekend.
