ABOUT BC MEN’S rowing

Boston College Men’s Rowing is a club program that competes against both club and varsity teams from across the country. While the team can be traced back to several predecessors, the modern team was founded in 1987 with limited resources and has since grown to become one of the largest collegiate crews on the Charles River.

The 50+ member team practices six days per week during the school year, and is comprised of walk-on athletes with no prior experience, as well as accomplished high school oarsmen and coxswains.

Our competitive seasons occur in both the fall and spring, though the team trains all throughout the school year. Practices during the Fall Season center around the Head of the Charles, one of the biggest regattas in the world and held on the river where we practice daily. During Spring Break, the team makes a training trip to warmer weather for a week of intensive practices. The Spring racing season runs from March until May, with most races taking place in and around New England.

Local schools that we compete against include Bates, Trinity, Tufts, UMass, and WPI. Regional championship races include New England’s (NERC) and the ECAC Championships (NIRC). Our season concludes at the ACRA Club National Championship in Oak Ridge, TN, where we race top teams in the country including Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Virginia, and many more.

The team also competes across the country and world, participating in both the San Diego Crew Classic as well as the World Leading Universities Regatta in Shanghai, China.
